Tony Frederick Photography -- Business Card Illustrations
Tony Frederick Photography: for decades, one of the most well-appointed and respected photography studios in Indiana. Tony had a fine arts degree, and it occurred to him to represent his studio with art, rather than photography -- an out-of-the box concept if there ever was one. I suggested artist Ben Shahn, who Tony informed me was also a well-known documentary photographer. I drew portraits of Tony and photography assistant Suzi Dibble in the familiar, scratchy Ben Shahn style. Tony was delighted and used them until his retirement in the late 2010's.
Ball State University/PBS -- Bob Ross Portrait and "Happy Little Fest" event logo
Windmill Marketing is responsible for helping brand Ball State University's "Bob Ross Happy Little Fest" -- a celebration of artist and TV personality Bob Ross, who broadcast all of his "Joy of Painting" episodes from Ball State's WIPB Studios. Windmill contacted me to assist in creating a look for the event's marketing material. For the portrait of Bob Ross, I stylized the illustration to be reminiscent of the horizontal "scan lines" from older television sets. To capture a fun and happy feel for the event logo, I used a font called "Camp Kid," designed by Kristina Klaffke, and created illustrated references to Bob's brush, "happy little trees" and "fluffy little clouds."
Indiana University East -- Online Brand and University Slogan
IU East contacted me for ideas. They wanted a new slogan/tagline for the university, and were also unsure what to call their online learning program. I submitted "IU -- Focused On You" for the university slogan, and "IUEverywhere" to play off their IUE acronym. Both ideas were accepted and used throughout the 2011 year.
